Library Cards - Join us!
Your Library Card is much more than a piece of plastic! It is your access key to good books, popular magazines, current information, audiobooks, eBooks and e-resources, and getting a card is simple. All residents of Westmoreland County are invited to visit the Library and ask for a card at the Circulation Desk. You must bring a current form of identification with you. A Pennsylvania driver's license meets our identification requirements. If you do not have a current license or are new to the Murrysville area, bring a piece of mail that displays your local address; for example, a utility bill will confirm your home address. You will be asked to complete a one-page registration form so that we have your up-to-date contact information. You will then be handed your Library Card and all of our books and resources will truly be your books and resources. A child under the age of 16 must have a parent or legal guardian sign his or her registration form in order to receive a Library Card.
Every year the Library will ask you to verify your current home address, phone number and email address. Your Library Card registration expires every three years. When this happens, Library staff will ask you to confirm your Patron Account registration and your Library Card will be renewed for another three year period. Both the address check and renewal of your Library Card will occur when you check out books at the Circulation Desk or when you call into the Library for help with your Patron Account.
Loan Periods - How long do you have?
There is no limit to the number of items you may borrow from the Library. The loan period for all items is two weeks. You may renew any item up to four times unless that item has been placed on hold by another Library patron. Most reference materials may circulate overnight by special arrangement and with a deposit of $15.00. Reference materials must be returned to the Library by 9:00 a.m. the following day. You can renew your books online, in person at the Circulation Desk or by calling the Library at 724-327-1102.
Due dates are printed on your receipt and can be checked by accessing your Patron Account. Daily fines of $.25 for adult items and $.10 for children's items are charged for each item that is not returned or renewed by its due date. You may be charged repair or replacement costs if you lose or damage something that you borrowed. Total charges of more than $10.00 on your card and/or the card(s) of minors for whom you are responsible will result in suspension of your borrowing privileges until all such fees are paid. You can pay your fines in cash, by check or by credit card at the Circulation Desk or online by accessing your Patron Account.
Patron Account - What is it and where is it?
If you have a Library Card, you also have a Patron Account. You can access your Patron Account by clicking on the Patron Account link in the left hand corner of our webpage or you can link to your Patron Account by clicking on "Search the Catalog." Enter your barcode which is found on the back of your Library Card. Make sure that you are entering all 14 characters of your Library Card barcode with no spaces. Your password is the last four digits of the home phone number you listed on your registration form. Once logged into your Patron Account, you will be able to see all of the items you have borrowed from libraries within the Westmoreland Library Network and the dates on which they are due. You can place holds on Library materials, review requested items, renew your books and pay any fines and fees that you may owe. As always, you can stop by the Circulation Desk or call the Library if you need help with your Patron Account.
