Welcome to the home of Summer Reading this year! Due to the Covid-19 crisis, the Murrysville Community Library is offering a new type of summer experience. The Summer Reading Program for children, teens, and adults kicks off on Monday, June 8, with registration will be continuing throughout the summer. The Library is offering a new way to participate in Summer Reading by moving from tracking reading on paper and attending in-person programs to a virtual world of dynamic programs, incentives (or prizes), reading logs, and much more.
The new virtual Summer Reading Clubs, renamed as Challenges, have a two-hub approach. Activities, games, and programs are offered via web-pages for each Challenge (Read-to-Me Club, School Age Summer Reading Challenge, Teen Summer Reading Challenge, and Adult Summer Reading Challenge). Please note, advanced registration is required for some programs, these programs will be marked. For more information on what programs require registration within each Challenge, visit the appropriate web-page.To participate in Summer Reading you will need to create a Beanstack account. To get started on Beanstack* create an account using the app or the desktop version, select the Murrysville Community Library as your home library and sign up for the Adult Summer Reading Challenge. Beanstack, the Library’s new virtual platform, is used to track reading and activity participation.
To spark each reader’s imagination and keep them engaged, the Challenges focus on activities that encourage non-digital learning. Readers will travel beyond the book with YouTube cooking tutorial, upcycled crafts, and traditional pastime games, such as Word Searches, Scattergories, MadLibs, and more. For more information go to each Challenge’s web-page.
