Library Cards – Join us!

Your Library Card is much more than a piece of plastic! It is your access key to good books, popular magazines, current information, audiobooks, e-books, and e-resources. All residents of Westmoreland County are invited to visit the Library and ask for a card at the Circulation Desk. You must bring a current form of identification with you. A Pennsylvania driver’s license meets our identification requirements. If you do not have a current license, please bring a piece of mail that displays your full name and local address, such as a utility bill.  You will be asked to complete a one-page registration form. You will then be handed your Library Card and all of our books and resources will become your books and resources. A child under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign his or her registration form in order to receive a Library Card.

Every year the Library will ask you to verify your current home address, phone number and email address. Your Library Card registration expires every three years. When this happens, Library staff will ask you to confirm your Patron Account registration and your Library Card will be renewed for another three-year period.

Digital Card

A digital card gives you access to our eBook and eAudiobook Collection through Overdrive. It does not provide access to our physical collections. To get a card that allows you to access our entire collection, you will need to visit the Murrysville Community Library, or any library in the Westmoreland Library Network. The digital library card is only available to Pennsylvania residents over the age of 13 who do not already have a Westmoreland Library Network library card. To get a digital card you will need to:

  • Visit this page and click the “register now” link.
  • Enter your name, birth date, mailing address, and a unique email address.

Loan Periods – How long do you have?

There is no limit to the number of items you may borrow from the Library. The initial loan period for all items is three weeks. You may renew any item up to four times unless that item has been placed on hold by another Library patron. Most reference materials may circulate overnight by special arrangement and with a deposit of $15.00. You can renew your books online, in person at the Circulation Desk, or by calling the Library at 724-327-1102.

Due dates are printed on your receipt and can be checked by accessing your Patron Account. Daily fines of $.25 for adult items and $.10 for children’s items are charged for each item that is not returned or renewed by its due date. You may be charged repair or replacement costs if you lose or damage something that you borrowed. If you have more than $10.00 in fines or charges outstanding on your Library Card, you will not be permitted to borrow anything until the fines are reduced below the $10.00 limit. You can pay your fines in cash or by check at the Circulation Desk or by credit card by accessing your Patron Account online.

Patron Account – What is it and where is it?

If you have a Library Card, you also have a Patron Account. You can access your Patron Account by clicking here. Your username is your barcode number, which is found on the back of your Library Card (enter all 14 characters with no spaces).  Your password is the last four digits of the first phone number you listed on your registration form. Once logged into your Patron Account, you will be able to see all of the items you have borrowed from libraries within the Westmoreland Library Network and the dates on which they are due. You can also place holds on Library materials, review requested items, renew your books, and pay any fines and fees that you may owe. As always, you can stop by the Circulation Desk or call the Library if you need help with your Patron Account.
