Without our group of dedicated volunteers, it would be impossible for the Library to fulfill its mission. Volunteers support the Library’s staff by helping to:
process, clean and shelve library materials.
keep the Library’s materials in the correct order through Shelf Reading.
pull and process materials for our library hold system.
assist with preparation for a library program or event.
stamp envelopes/fold brochures.
dust shelves and tables.
deliver library materials to homebound patrons through the Outreach Program.
As a ‘Thank You’ for our active volunteers’ service, we give the following benefits:
Grace Period on Overdue Fines: A grace period of two (2) weeks will be extended to materials checked out on your Borrower’s Card as long as you are an active Volunteer. Overdue fines will begin to accrue after two (2) weeks have passed.
Library Page Position: The Library employs several people to work on weeknights and weekends. Current and former Junior Volunteers (ages 14-17) are often considered for these positions. Library Pages must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
Volunteers typically will work during the Library’s normal operating hours. As a general guide, most of our volunteers choose to work two (2) hours on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule. Volunteer duties need to be completed approximately thirty (30) minutes prior to closing. However, other schedules can be arranged. Although we strive to find volunteer times that are mutually beneficial for the Volunteers and Library Staff, it is important to be aware that the Library needs to place volunteers on days and times when their assistance will be most valuable to the Library.
Potential applicants ages fourteen (14) and over will need to complete the Application Form on the reverse and return it to the Library’s Circulation Desk with the following volunteer clearances:
The free online class Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse: Mandated & Permissive Reporting in Pennsylvania is encouraged, but not required. Instructions for obtaining your clearances can be obtained by clicking here or by contacting the Volunteer Coordinator at via email at Janeene.Foster@wlnonline.org or via phone at 724-327-1102 x 147.
After your clearances have been received, the Library will schedule for a fifteen (15) minute interview to assess your talents and how they will best fit into the Library’s needs, to go over training materials and to find a mutually beneficial time for volunteering.
Murrysville Community Library thanks you in advance for your interest in helping us to accomplish our mission of connecting people with ideas and information, promoting lifelong learning and building community. Each volunteer plays a vital role in the success of the Library!
